About Darrell Irions
Regarded nationally as a leading expert in the housing industry, Darrell Irions currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA). His professional responsibilities at the St. Petersburg, Florida, agency entail executing the policies and strategic plans created by the SPHA Board of Commissioners. Darrell Irions actively oversees the operation and management of all agency housing programs and initiatives.
Drawing upon his depth of experience in the housing industry, Darrell Irions successfully led the redevelopment of the Jordan Park public housing community, contributing to the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhoods. He also worked closely with Neighborhood Home Solutions and the City of St. Petersburg to effectively enact the HOPE VI federal homeownership program, which allowed 115 low-income families to buy their own homes. Under Darrell Irions’ leadership, St. Petersburg Housing Authority consistently achieves “High Performer” status with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Darrell Irions holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His early career history includes senior management responsibilities at housing authority agencies in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado. Joining the Chicago Housing Authority, he excelled as Chief Administrator for Operations and as the Chief Administrative Officer. In 1995, Darrell Irions relocated to Pinellas County, Florida, and joined SPHA’s staff as Executive Director. He currently holds affiliations with many organizations, including the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.
Beyond his work in housing, Darrell Irions previously served in both active and reserve duty as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. For Mr. Irions’ service as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, President George W. Bush appointed him as a member of the worldwide Board of Governors of the United Service Organizations, Inc.
