As a leading proponent of affordable housing, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) supports entities that develop strong, safe, and affordable housing and communities for underprivileged Americans. NAHRO recognizes such housing organizations through the Award of Merit.
Specifically, the NAHRO Award of Merit is given to organizations that provide housing opportunities and break ground by pioneering new types of housing projects. Awards are given for categories such as project design, innovation in affordable housing, and innovation in administration, among others. To be eligible, a housing organization must submit a new program that has not previously received an NAHRO Award of Merit.
The Award of Merit is so named because each housing candidate's programs are judged on their own merit rather than pitted in competition against other programs. Besides recognition for housing, the Award of Merit garners recognition for NAHRO, which continues to support housing organizations through leadership and providing educational resources.
