The Chief Executive Officer of the St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA), Darrell Irions is proud to announce an education initiative for Florida youth living in public housing developments. SPHA collaborated with Quantum Leap Educational Services, LLC, to establish a personal tutoring program and other educational activities after school hours, based at the Jordan Park public housing community. Dubbed the SUCCESS program, the initiative aims to encourage high achievement among local school-aged children in public housing developments and emphasizes the importance of education for their future.
As Darrell Irions explains, the program offers children the tools and resources they need for academic success. It also stresses family involvement and hopes to strengthen bonds between students and their parents. Students can receive instruction in reading, writing, science, and math, and the curriculum draws directly from methods outlined by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) so that students’ experiences will mirror those of the classroom. The FDOE rated the SUCCESS curriculum as Excellent and recognized its attempts to make learning fun and engaging for students.
